Mikko Karpale

I am a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Peppi Karppinen's research group. I work in an Academy of Finland flagship project GeneCellNano, which generates novel therapeutic products to treat chronic diseases. In my doctoral thesis I studied the molecular mechanisms of sensing the chemical environment and how these affect systemic metabolism.  Among other important findings, the thesis unraveled a novel molecular mechanism for hypercholesterlomia caused by environmental chemicals or drugs. My current research interests are in developing gene therapies which modulate hypoxia response to prevent and treat chronic diseases.
